Deep Geeking

But not my geeking. ZDNet UK has an article up about the inner workings of Google. Thanks to Weblog Tools Collection for the link.

Goon Times

December 2nd, 2004

I ought to have more time to blog post-nano, but somehow it all still disappears. Here’s a funny joke, though: Diary of a Madman’s Goon from rec.humor.funny.

The Post-NaNo Blues

December 1st, 2004

It’s strange to wake up without 2,000 words hanging over my head. I didn’t write a thing today, but maybe tomorrow I’ll start in on the short story that I’ve wanted to write for a few weeks now.

I don’t hate the characters as much as I thought I would after spending four weeks with them. On the other hand, I think I’d have trouble writing fluff after 50,000 words of Serious Plot. I could write something short, gen, and episode-like, like “Revisions.” I enjoyed the Twilight Zone plot of that episode.

Official NaNoWriMo 2004 Winner!

There’s nothing like a little gratuitous introspection to fill out those last 1000 words.

Xmas in November

November 29th, 2004

I like Thanksgiving because it’s Christmas Lite—all the food with only half the kitsch—but Seema prefers the Christmas music. Her latest discovery: Osama Got Run Over By A Reindeer.

The Incredibles

November 28th, 2004

The Incredibles was lots of fun. I highly recommend it, especially for Edna Mode, Seamstress to the Supers. I still have 8% of NaNo to go, so I’ll just point you to this Objectivist review of the movie.

Holiday Heating

November 27th, 2004

For some reason the heat in my building always breaks down on holidays. I got back to Boston post-turkey and it was ambient November in my apartment with no hot water, either. (It didn’t help that I’d left the windows cracked.) So I did what I usually do when the heat’s off on a cold winter night—I camped out in the kitchen and baked.

It turned out there were actual furnace guys in the basement fixing things, which was more than I’d hoped for. The hot water came on after a couple of hours, and the heat a bit after that. So NaNo continues without frozen fingers.
