A filk of "Yesterday, When I Was Young."

This parody of "Yesterday, When I was Young" (1965-66 Editions Musicales Charles) is protected as such by the copyright laws of the United States of America.

This is my second filk of "Yesterday, When I Was Young" - the other is "Yesterday, When I Was Borg," a Voyager filk.

Yesterday, when I was new,
The worst of fic was fresh as sun-kissed morning dew.
I cranked mine out as if the muse would never flag
And won a few awards, though I don't like to brag.

The thousand pairs I'd pair; the splendid fics I planned.
Alas I never could keep up with the demand.
I ficced all night and shunned the naked light of day,
And only now I see how the muse ran away.

Yesterday when I was new,
So many Sixties filks were waiting to debut.
So many future eps still lay in store for me,
Before the end my fannish eyes refused to see.

I ficced so fast that show and series all ran out.
I never stopped to think what fic was all about,
And every conversation I can now recall,
Concerned itself with fic, and nothing else at all.

Yesterday the starship flew,
And every crazy ep brought something gone askew,
I used my magic muse as if she were a wand,
And never saw the waste of showlessness beyond.

The game of fic I played with silly plots in spades,
Now every WIP I start too quickly, quickly fades.
The friends I made all seemed somehow to drift away,
And only I am left, with overused cliches.

There are so many filks in me I won't pursue
I fic the bitter dregs of series that are through.
The time has come for me to pay for yesterday...
When I was new.
